I discovered something amazing today while working on a story.
Harrumphed.
It’s an accepted word in the MSWord dictionary. In fact. It even corrected my spelling when I dared to type in only one ‘r’.
I realize there are many such onomatopoetic words, (Words that describe a sound similar to the one you make when saying them), I just had no idea that harrumph was a recognized one.
It’s brilliant. And it has made my day. It has also made me quite determined to use both harrumphed and onomatopoetic in a conversation.
The former because it’s next to impossible to work into an every-day sentence (when not telling a story)and the latter because it sounds fun.
Wish me luck!
