Twitter Wins! (This Time)

Thrilled.

That’s what I am right now. Finally I have this teeny tiny little bit of hope that by the time I actually finish my illusive novel – there will still be readers left in the world!
Look! I’ll show you.

No, no. I’m not talking about the fact that ‘Lenon’ as opposed to the correct spelling of John Lennon’s name is trending. That’s just sad. By itself it would have been just one more black mark against the collective intelligence of the human race. However, it is completely offset by the fact that #whyiread is trending!
Amazingly enough the majority of the tweets are actually seriously pro-reading! Only a few here and there are the predictable “I don’t” and “Reading is for losers”.
Oh wait. Who am I kidding – they were really more like “i dnt” and “readdn s 4 losrs”. Sorry, the editor in me was having a bit of trouble letting such horrifying examples of the literary skills of modern youth find their way onto my blog. The readers were exponentially more eloquent – odd isn’t it?
I’ve pulled together a few of my favorite #whyiread tweets – to make you book lovers out there smile and realize;
You are not alone.
There are at least ten of us.
See:
@jasonpinter: As you get older, you realize being that nerdy kid who read all the time was the best thing that could have happened to you. #whyiread
@BrighterGee You can spoil endings for people at the cinema if the book adapts into a movie #whyiread
(But as they say, with great power comes great responsibility – and this is one power that should never be exploited. Ruining endings is cruel and unusual punishment.)
@Tamara_Morgan: It’s cheaper than time travel. #whyIread
@karenrivers Because I could not stop. Even if I wanted to. I belong to books. #whyiread
@ChantelleJada: #whyiread because the book is always better than the movie.
@Theriaka: Because without imagination humanity would never evolve. #whyiread
@halseanderson: Because reading is my inhale and writing is my exhale. #WhyIRead
@jasonpinter: Because a Linkin Park, Ke$ha or Cee-Lo song never changed the way I view the world. #whyiread
(He’s on fire. Fire I tell you!)

@runninheels: #whyiread = #whyibreathe
@BonaFidePYT: Because they expect me not to. #WhyIRead
@Vogelrachelm: #whyiread a good book makes the fire cozier, the hot chocolate warmer, and the holiday season more memorable
I shamelessly admit that I included my own tweet in there. A girl’s gotta get her props somehow!
I will say this though – It is hard to distill everything that is amazing about reading into the 140 character limit that twitter gives you. One of these days I might just have to elaborate on the subject.
Why do you read?
